Delete folders from Windows Explorer SharePoint Sync

Modified on: Tue, 31 Jan 2023 9:07 AM

Removing a synced SharePoint folder from your File Explorer

I want to remove SharePoint sync folders from File Explorer, but I am concerned if I do the files will be deleted from SharePoint. I have already 'stopped sync' but I was hoping for some clarity on how this is correctly done.

Thanks for the suggested work around. I was able to solve the issue. Once  you 'Stop Sync' you can go ahead and delete the locally sorted files without effecting the SharePoint. The troubling issue though is the files seem to disappear from the side bar once sync is stopped. You can locate the locally stored files through the system/users folder. Cheers

Hi

Thank you for posting the thread on our forum.

Based on your description, we did a test on our end. We create a folder in sharepoint site and sync it to OneDrive.

Then open the file explorer>delete the folder >then we find the folder will be deleted from file explorer, sharepoint site and onedrive.

Files deleted from the shared library are no longer available to anyone and can be restored from the shared library's recycle bin within the next 93 days.

Then you can just go to onedrive recycle bin to recover the folder

Hope the information can help you, if if there have any misunderstanding, please feel free to post back.

Best regards,

Stacey
